At FAMCO, teamwork, dedication, and leadership are not just the foundations of success, they are the principles at the heart of the FAMCO Family Values. This year, one individual has exemplified our family values in every aspect of his work, Marcelino Flores, FAMCO’s Employee of the Year. With 11 years of dedication to the company, Marcelino has not only mastered his role but has also become an integral part of FAMCO’s growth and success.

Marcelino serves as the Team Leader for the Lasers and Coil Line department. Every metal product that FAMCO makes starts in this department.  His day begins with scheduling the day’s tasks, ensuring the timely production of metal components, and overseeing the proper functioning of machines. His role is crucial in maintaining efficiency, as his department sets pace for the entire facility. From loading coils to cutting out metal shapes on our lasers, Marcelino ensures that operations run smoothly, making a direct impact on the company’s productivity.

Marcelino is receiving this award not just for his hard work but for best embodying FAMCO’s core family values. He believes in the strength of teamwork and inspires those around him through his leadership and dedication.

Marcelino believes that strong leadership is built on mutual respect and a shared commitment to excellence. He leads by example, ensuring that tasks are completed correctly and efficiently. His advice to new employees is simple but powerful: put in the effort, and FAMCO will provide the tools and opportunities to build a promising future.

His actions reflect FAMCO’s belief that taking care of the customer supersedes the job description. One of the key aspects of Marcelino’s job satisfaction is seeing his work completed and knowing that he is helping customers. His dedication to excellence has not gone unnoticed, and his enthusiasm is contagious. He takes pride in his contributions, making FAMCO not just a workplace but a second home. Whether responding to challenges like the facility flood or learning new technologies to improve operations, Marcelino takes initiative and remains accountable for the outcomes

For Marcelino, FAMCO is more than just a workplace, it’s a family. He appreciates open-minded leadership that encourages new ideas and fosters a positive work culture. The company’s values align with his own, making it a place where he feels at home. Beyond the work itself, he embraces the importance of celebrating victories and sharing success, making FAMCO a more enjoyable and fulfilling workplace.

Marcelino’s journey at FAMCO began over a decade ago, introduced to the company through a friend. Initially, the transition was challenging, as the work environment was different from what it is today—there were no lasers, only saws. Through perseverance and learning from a meticulous mentor, he became an expert in his field. Over the years, he took on additional responsibilities, becoming a key player in the company’s expansion.

A true testament to his dedication, Marcelino took it upon himself to learn new technologies when FAMCO introduced laser machines. With little prior experience in computers, he enrolled in courses outside of work to enhance his skills. This commitment to self-improvement has allowed him to confidently operate and manage new technology, a milestone he is incredibly proud of.

Marcelino credits his motivation to the company’s continuous growth and the opportunities provided, including the English as a second language program and benefits like Marty’s Month. He finds fulfillment in working as part of a team, ensuring that orders are fulfilled efficiently while prioritizing workplace safety. To him, teamwork is not just about productivity, it’s about fostering a supportive environment where everyone succeeds together.

This year, Marcelino expanded his expertise by earning a forklift instructor certification, allowing him to train others. His communication and leadership skills have also significantly improved, thanks to the company’s supportive learning environment like the English Language classes. Looking ahead, he is eager to continue growing with FAMCO, embracing new responsibilities and challenges.

Marcelino’s proudest accomplishment this year was his response to an unexpected facility flood. As one of the first responders on-site at 1 a.m., he played a crucial role in managing the crisis and ensuring smooth operations afterward. Additionally, he was given responsibility for putting into operation our newest machine, a coil slitter, showcasing his adaptability and problem-solving skills.

Outside of work, Marcelino enjoys spending time with his three children, coaching and playing soccer. His son is part of one of the best teams in Idaho, competing at the national level. Traveling to tournaments and supporting his family is an important part of his life, and he appreciates having a workplace that supports work-life balance.

When asked why he believes he received the Employee of the Year award, Marcelino humbly attributes it to his dedication and accomplishments at FAMCO. His willingness to take on challenges, improve his skills, and support his team has made him a standout employee. His journey is a testament to hard work, resilience, and a passion for excellence.
