Wind Directional Chimney Cap - Stainless Steel
$87.95 – $186.95
- Quality constructed from heavy-duty 26 gauge stainless steel
- An effective solution to chimney downdraft in windy areas
- Cap separates the wind stream as it flows over the cap, while the rotating hood is kept in proper position (relative to the wind) by the wind vane
- Air movement past the hood creates a partial vacuum in the flue, enhancing draft efficiency and helping to prevent downdrafts
- Available for single wall pipe sizes from 5 inch to 14 inch outside diameter, see more details below
- For double/triple wall pipe, we also offer our WCASS wind cap adapter which will fit inside an insulated, double or triple wall pipe to create a mount for your wind directional cap (sold separately)

No problem at all, I love birds! If they want to move into your cap, we recommend screening it off with hardware cloth in a way that still allows the cap to rotate.
I would like to know to what winds speeds is this cap rated to. I live in Cathedral City, CA during our windy season we experience 40 to 50 mph winds with some gust reaching 60 to 75 mph. The down draft from these winds rattle the hell out of our chimney.

We would probably recommend against using any vent with rotating parts if you're in an area prone to sustained strong winds. I would recommend our vacuum cap for backdraft prevention:

Need to order one of your directional wind chimney caps.
The main pipe Outside is 12in and the inside pIpe inside is 8 in. You also mention a base plate....do I need this also? Why can’t I simply attach the unit directly on to the 12 inch pipe coming out of the chimney?

Putting a cap over insulated pipe could allow exhaust to feed back into the pipe liner and damage the pipe, because of this we would recommend you get an 8" adapter, which will slide into the pipe and comes with a protective collar to shield your outer pipe, and an 8" cap to mount to the adapter.

Excellent quality, works great!
This is the second cap we’ve purchased, both from Famco, as we have 2 wood stove inserts, in our home (plus another in our garage/shop). The first works great! We were having issues with smoke being blown back down, behind the insert, which would then enter our living room. This would happen in high winds, blowing across the flat, open chimney. This cap also creates a much better draft, so our fires are started way more easily. We couldn’t even start a fire if it was breezy outside (before). And the better draft helps in the summer, too. No more ‘smell’, it’s so nice!
I expect this one will work the same, for our other fireplace!

Shopped for another wind directed chimney cap since the last one worked so well. We were very happy to shop and find another cap at Famco. Delivered to our home, I’ll review and order an adapter from Famco.
Great products, great service, great Company.

These caps are the best thing ever. Our wood burning stoves have never functioned so well. They burn hotter and faster with almost no back drafting. If I had know that a wind cap made that much difference I would have put them on my chimneys years ago.

Although we have not yet determined it’s effectiveness in the gulf shore winds, we are pleased with the ordering and shipping process. The quality of construction exceeded our expectations. Thanks.

Arrived on time and is of very high quality build and workmanship. I am pleased with this rain cap. Won’t be firing the wood burning furnace for another 2 months but I see no reason why the cap won’t work perfectly.

Looks well made, will have to wait and see how it performs this winter.

I live at 8,000 feet elevation facing southeast with a 200 ft hill behind me to the northwest. Predominant & frequent high wind event come form the west/northwest and the air dumps on my house. The house is also spray foamed insulated. Draft was a problem to the point of CO2 detectors going off, puffing backdraft smoke etc. Got this Tuesday, easily slide it on the flue. Sunday today with high wind warnings & a 30-55 mph north/norhtwest wind. I was afraid to light the stove, but I did, and just like the last few days it is drawing perfectly. I really could not be happier. It is also well made and spins like a top.
