Put it in a Pocket

The Joist Pocket Liner® pocket is the newest approach in floor construction.   The Joist Pocket Liner® pocket creates a pocket in concrete foundation walls to support the end of an engineered wood I-joist or a conventional wood floor joist.  The result is a new standard in floor strength, performance, and silence.

The Joist Pocket Liner® was invented by a framer after he saw a homebuilder throw a metal joist hanger at a stem wall because the homebuilder had just received another call back for a floor squeak.

The Joist Pocket Liner® is a high-density, polyethylene component used to form pockets (block outs) in foundation walls, so that the ends of each floor joist can be supported directly by the foundation wall.  This system provides labor and material savings over conventional methods of joist support.

JPLs are made in different depths and widths, to accommodate various sizes of floor-joists and dimensional wood floor-joists.  For more information regarding joist Compatibility, see the install / user guide under the specs tab on each JPL product page.

No More Squeaky Floors

The Joist Pocket Liner® pocket is an amazing new building product that eliminates squeaks at the foundation wall.  The pockets are a snap to install and save time and money by reducing framing time and homeowner callbacks.

Quick and Easy Installation

Joist Pocket Liners® are installed on the grade line of the foundation with two pre-installed nails.  After the concrete cures and the foundation form panels are removed, the pockets remain in the concrete.  Simply tap out the top tab of the Joist Pocket Liner® and drop in your floor joist.  See our Installation Guide listed under the product Specs on the product page (center tab).

JPL® pocket system vs. floor-joist with Rim

Features of JPL® pocket system

Benefits to User

Eliminates rim board from the joist system.

Reduces material and labor cost of floor system by eliminating cost of rim and a band of wall framing and exterior finish around the perimeter of the house equal to the depth of the joist/rim board.  Eliminates fasteners needed in rim installation.

House height is reduced by depth of joist.

Meet CCR and building code height restrictions.  Fewer steps up to the house reduce flatwork cost, meets senior housing or ADA requirements.  Improves architectural appearance.

Joist Pocket Liner® system improves seismic design of structure.

Reduces amount and size of seismic straps and hold-downs, lowering hardware cost and installation labor.

Fasteners are not needed for end of joist support.  Solid concrete pocket supports and holds joist.

No nailing or screw attachment of joist to end support needed.  Reduces labor in joist installation and eliminates potential squeaks.

Joist layout does not interfere with anchor bolt layout.

Layout interference and joist notching are eliminated when joists are set within the foundation stem walls.  Labor is reduced and quality of joist system is improved.

Use pony wall at interior support instead of post and girder.

Costs are lower due to reduced amount of wood and concrete used to support floor.
