FAMCO is proud to celebrate the outstanding dedication and hard work of Leidy Bavelandia, our Employee of the Quarter. Known for her focus, positivity, and quiet leadership on the shop floor, Leidy exemplifies what it means to be part of the FAMCO team.
Leidy has been with FAMCO for almost two years, working as an Assembler II in the Roofing and Linear department. Her daily tasks involve using the shear and press brake to bend sheet metal into high-quality components. It’s a physically demanding job that requires precision and concentration, but it’s one Leidy takes pride in. “It’s never boring,” she says. “There’s a lot of variety in the sizes and designs that require attention, but I put effort into making quality products.”
Her positive attitude and commitment are exactly why she believes she was chosen for this award. “I’ve been really responsible and committed to my job,” she says. But for Leidy, it’s not just about showing up, it’s about being part of a team that works together. When mistakes happen, she says, “We don’t point fingers. We take ownership as a group and fix the problem together.” She says, “Teamwork means working together to solve problems, communicating, and helping each other look good. It’s about accomplishing something as a team.”
One of Leidy’s proudest moments at FAMCO is this recognition. “At first I felt shy and embarrassed,” she speaks on winning Employee of the Quarter. “But then I felt good about myself, like I was doing the right things, and it felt even better knowing management was recognizing that effort.” It’s a well-earned moment of pride for someone who has committed themselves wholeheartedly to their work.
One of the biggest challenges Leidy has had to face at FAMCO has been the language barrier, but she’s been steadily closing that gap. One of the benefits that FAMCO offers is free, onsite English classes for any employee who wants to learn. These English classes have made a major difference in her life. “It’s an investment in me,” she says. “Even if they offered it after a long shift, I would go to class because I know it’s going to help me in work and in life.” But Leidy gets the opportunity to learn during working hours, 4 hours a week, and get paid during her time. As she’s grown at FAMCO, Leidy is also proud of how much her math and memory skills have grown, especially when it comes to reading and recalling numbers and angles in her cell.
Originally from Colombia, Leidy reflects on how different this work is from her past experience in hotels and restaurants. “Back home, I didn’t even know this kind of job existed. Now, I’m forming something useful out of sheet metal. It’s so interesting.” She feels a real sense of belonging at FAMCO, something she hasn’t found at other jobs. “I’m very, very happy here,” she says.
Outside of work, Leidy’s world revolves around her two sons, ages 10 and 8. She loves spending time with them outdoors, taking them to parks, restaurants, and stores, and keeping them away from screens. After a busy day, her favorite way to unwind is to clean up, relax on the couch, and watch her favorite soap operas.
When asked what advice she’d give to a new FAMCO employee, her answer is clear: “If you put in the effort, stay committed, and want to grow, there are so many rewards here. FAMCO opens doors if you’re willing to walk through them.”
We’re incredibly proud of Leidy’s journey, her commitment to excellence, and her growth, not just as an employee, but as a person. Congratulations, Leidy, on being FAMCO’s Employee of the Quarter!
