The FAMCO Difference
- Quality constructed from heavy-duty 26 gauge stainless steel
- An effective solution to chimney downdraft in windy areas
- Cap separates the wind stream as it flows over the cap, while the rotating hood is kept in proper position (relative to the wind) by the wind vane
- Air movement past the hood creates a partial vacuum in the flue, enhancing draft efficiency and helping to prevent downdrafts
- Available for single wall pipe sizes from 5 inch to 14 inch outside diameter, see more details below
- For double/triple wall pipe, we also offer our WCASS wind cap adapter which will fit inside an insulated, double or triple wall pipe to create a mount for your wind directional cap (sold separately)

Description
The FAMCO WDCSS wind directional chimney cap is designed to be an effective solution to chimney downdraft in windy areas. The cap separates the wind stream as it flows over the cap, while the rotating hood is kept in proper position (relative to the wind) by the wind vane. Air movement past the hood creates a partial vacuum in the flue, enhancing draft efficiency and helping to prevent downdrafts. Quality constructed from heavy-duty 26 gauge stainless steel. This product does not include a built-in bird screen. We recommend using Bostik High Temp Stainless Anti Seize on the rotating bracket and cleaning creosote buildup to ensure cap functions correctly and is able to rotate without issues, this should be done annually or else as needed.
The FAMCO WDCSS wind directional chimney cap is engineered to slip around the OD (outside diameter) of a single wall pipe. For double/triple wall pipe, we also offer our WCASS wind cap adapter which will fit inside an insulated, double or triple wall pipe to create a mount for your wind directional cap (sold separately).
The FAMCO WDCSS wind directional chimney cap comes in a range of diameters from 5 inch to 14 inch with heights ranging from 14½ inch to 27 inch, see our specs sheet for more details. The FAMCO WDCSS Wind Directional Chimney Cap is manufactured by FAMCO in the United States and comes with a 1-year warranty against product defects and workmanship. Q
any problem with birds making nests
A
No problem at all, I love birds! If they want to move into your cap, we recommend screening it off with hardware cloth in a way that still allows the cap to rotate.

Q
I would like to know to what winds speeds is this cap rated to. I live in Cathedral City, CA during our windy season we experience 40 to 50 mph winds with some gust reaching 60 to 75 mph. The down draft from these winds rattle the hell out of our chimney.
A
We would probably recommend against using any vent with rotating parts if you're in an area prone to sustained strong winds. I would recommend our vacuum cap for backdraft prevention:

Q
Need to order one of your directional wind chimney caps.
The main pipe Outside is 12in and the inside pIpe inside is 8 in. You also mention a base plate....do I need this also? Why can’t I simply attach the unit directly on to the 12 inch pipe coming out of the chimney?
A
Putting a cap over insulated pipe could allow exhaust to feed back into the pipe liner and damage the pipe, because of this we would recommend you get an 8" adapter, which will slide into the pipe and comes with a protective collar to shield your outer pipe, and an 8" cap to mount to the adapter.
