I have an 8” outside diameter double insulated stovepipe. If your cap slips over the stovepipe I don’t understand why I’d need an adapter?
- I will need to transition from rectangle masonry to round for wind directional vent. Does the transition insert inside the chimney or outside?
- Heavy winds (20-30mps gusts) are blowing our hot water heater pilot and the main flame when it's heating. I can feel the wind blowing down the pipe when this happens. Do you know if the directional chimney cap will help for hot water heater pipes?

Yes - this cap is designed to turn with the wind to block gusts from blowing down your pipes, and helps prevent backdraft in most applications where this is an issue.
