At FAMCO, we may take manufacturing high-quality HVAC parts and supplies that promote a healthier indoor environment seriously, but when the dog days of summer make themselves known, sometimes it makes sense to get out and enjoy it. One way of doing this is coming up with fun new activities that you can do at your next family get-together.
So rather than sit around and suffer in the heat, try these five fun family-friendly activities that you can do at your next summer barbecue.
A classic game of pass between multiple players, typically played with a flat plastic disc. Many different pass configurations can be set up, and there is no limit to the number of players that can be included. Aside from tossing a frisbee back and forth, variations of other traditional games that can be played with frisbees include:
- Hot Potato
- Frisbee Golf
Corn hole is a toss game played with bean bags that are aimed towards holes punched into wooden panels that are laid on the ground at a 45-degree angle facing upward and away from the thrower. For those who are sticklers for officiality, there is an Official Cornhole Association, and they do have an official rules page that lists the exact dimensions of these wooden panels, as well as how to set up the court, where the foul zone is, etc.
For most children and young ones, they will simply be delighted with throwing the bean bags around, and maybe even landing a goal once in a while.
When in Doubt, Always Add Water
Another way to beat the heat while outside is to include items that lower the temperature while also being appealing to both adults and children. PVC pipes with holes drilled in them connected to a hose can serve as excellent misters and drinking fountain stations in a pinch, considerably reducing the temperature of any area they happen to be located in. And children will always be delighted with inflatable pools, slip ‘n slides, and other water-based activities.
Regardless of age, beating the heat is a timeless activity that anyone can appreciate.
Bubbles Bubbles Bubbles
Another fun way to add to your family barbecue this summer is bubbles. Whether that’s giving out handfuls of bubble tubes to all of the children, getting a bubble making machine, or both, bubbles can make your summer shindig festive and unforgettable, especially for young ones.
Set Up a Tent
An impromptu playroom can be set up in a pinch should you have a tent handy. Depending on the size, this can also serve as a cabana for adults, but in either case, a tent is an excellent way to beat the heat while also providing an excellent launchpad for other ideas depending on the context of the party and the size/availability of what you have on hand, such as:
- Art display tent
- Toddler playroom
- Balloon room
- Game tent
