This vent cap is used as an exhaust vent and has a removable screen. Large hood design prevents restricted air flow. Quality crafted of Heavy Duty .020 Aluminum. Exceptional quality and packaging. One small issue: top of the damper (hinge side) has no gasket, I had to add it myself.

Good product manufactured and delivered in a reasonable time. My only quibble is that I did not want the flap installed (nor the holes drilled on the side for it). However, the flap was easily removed. For my fireplace intake air application, the air flow is into the house, i.e., not exhausting.

    We do not currently manufacture a vent designed to work with this diameter opening.
    2. If mounted vertically (facing downward) is the spring strong enough to keep the damper closed? If not, do you have something you would recommend? Application is bathroom shower vent that leaves the house under an overhand facing toward the ground in New England, so damper is important in the winter.

    You will want to check with your range hood manufacture to see which duct size they recommend, but we would recommend our 10" model for a 1,000 CFM range hood.

    The damper can only be removed by cutting off the plastic tabs holding it in place on either side of the vent, so it can be removed, but cannot be reinstalled once removed.

    The screen on this vent is removable, so if you were to use it for dryer exhaust the screen would need to be removed. This would prevent a fire hazard caused by lint buildup.

    Typically we would recommend ordering galvanized steel models, as Galvanized Steel will grip paint much more easily than Aluminum.
